Turkey is Latest Country to Offer Online Lottery

Turkey is set to be the next country to offer online lottery after its national lotto was awarded to a joint venture between Şans Dijital, a division of Turkish conglomerate Demirören Group, and Italian national lottery operator, Sisal.

The latest country to offer online lottery sales

The new Turkish national lottery operator, Sisal-Şans, has awarded its technology contract to Scientific Games, who will provide a combined retail and online network for the main national lottery, as well as a series of instant win games.

The Turkish national lottery is already popular and online lotto is expected to make it even bigger.

After being appointed in a competitive tendering process, the new official national lottery operator for Turkey has been tasked with boosting sales of the four core games, which will help to raise funds for the government and for good causes. Offering online lottery sales for the first time is a key element of future growth plans.

Sales of lottery games in Turkey are healthy

Italy’s official national operator, Sisal, has worked with Scientific Games for 25 years, introducing online lotto sales in its home country over a decade ago. Sales of lottery games have remained healthy in Turkey despite the recent economic slowdown, and online lottery sales of the national lottery are only going to boost this further.

Despite being an Islamic country, the Turks love to play the national lottery.

Experience in other nations shows that offering official national lottery games online can boost sales by up to 30%, as well as attracting a younger audience than traditional players who buy tickets in store, although this all depends on having an iLottery platform that is fit for purpose.

Online sports betting will join online lottery in Turkey

In a further announcement, Sisal-Şans has been awarded the contract to deliver sports betting and managed trading in Turkey, again in cooperation with Scientific Games.

Turkey’s move to introduce online lottery sales is part of a global trend that is seeing official national lottery games struggling to compete with other forms of gambling if they fail to offer their games on the internet. With easy access to sports betting and casino, many people will choose overseas operators rather then play in a retail store, especially younger players and Millennials.
